1894, 6 sen rate to Japan, mailed during sino-japanese war between nations at war: dowager 3 Ca. (2) tied blue seal Tientsin to cover in combination w. french offices 25 C. tied "SHANG-HAI 11 MARS 95" to Powers&Co., Nagasaki/Japan. On reverse blue "CUSTOM TIENTSIN FEB 22 1895", black "CUSTOMS SHANGHAI MARS 10 95", french mail steamer "LIGNE N 11 MARS 95 No. 1" and arrival Nagasaki March 15. Tientsin IJPO was closed during sino-japanese war, hence via Shanghai IJPO. Cert. Robineau/Menozzi (2017).

1878/1940, mint and used collection in hingeless mounts, written up on pages inc. used large dragons (all 9 different) to Dowager, cent ovpts., red revenues used inc. a $1, 1897 to $1, 1898/1909 to $5, neutrality Foochow issue 3 C. used, Nanking issue 1 C., 3 C., 7 C. used and a $5 mint, the latter marked "doubtful" by vendor, republic ovpts. both to $2, Yuan Shi Kai set, dues etc.; mint 2 C. coiling dragon gutter block-4, Dr. Sun 1912 set, 1921 airs set, dues good representation etc. In most attractive boxed self-made album showing Dowager 1 C. central symbol stitched in gold on black. A quality collection.

1903, COMBINATION FRANKING IMPERIAL CHINA-KIAOCHOW WITH RED REVENUES: $1 on 3c. red oblit. with tombstone mark, in combination with 2mark blue on registered cover (vertical crease not affecting adhesives is mentioned for accuracy only) from "KIAUTSCHOU 9/6 03" to Yonkers/N.Y./USA, on reverse sender's mark (German customs officer Breitscheidt), transit marks of "YOKOHAMA 2 JUN 03", "TACOMA, WASH JUL 12 1903" (U.S. West coast) and Yonkers arrival 18.7.03. MOST SPECTACULAR AND EXTREMELY RARE FRANKING!

1897, red revenues 2/cents (2), 1 C. tied three strikes brown customs dater "CUSTOMS CHEFOO MAY 1 1897" to red band cover to Inchon/Korea. On reverse lunar date by sender "3rd moon 30th day" and brown dispatch mark "CUSTOMS CHEFOO MAY 7 1897". All are type B of Chefoo customs dater. Addressed to a Mr. Wang c/o Meyer & Co. Sent by a Wang company in Chefoo, perhaps a relative. Meyer & Co. was established 1866 in Hong Kong by Hamburg merchants Hermann Constantin Eduard Meyer (1841-1926) and his brother H. D. Johannes Meyer. Tientsin branch followed in 1873, then Hamburg (1877), London (1883), Shanghai, Hankow, Chinan and Tsingtao etc. The chinese name of the company was "Mee Yeh Yang Hong" with trade names "Golden Dragon" and "Upon Novels." By recommandation of Paul von Moellendorff, first western advisor to Korean king Kojong (1852-1919), he ordered to open another branch in Chemulpo (Inchon, Jenchuan, Ninsen). This was done in May 1884 by Meyers business partner, Carl Andreas Wolter (1858-1916) with employee Sites. This was the first western business co. admitted to Korea, which also built the first western style bldg. in Korea: a sort of palace which was destroyed in Sept. 1950 with MacArthurs amphibious landing during the korean war. In 1886 Carl Luehrs joined, two more branches opened in Pusan and Andong. The Korea branch had a sort of import-export monopoly for the korean govt. to 1905. E. Meyer was honorary korean consul in Hamburg/Germany 1886-1906. The company exists in Hamburg until today. - Up to now only two other Red Revenue covers to Korea are recorded, both sent from Shanghai 1897.7.16 and to Meyer&Co. as well (Hwa 2003 pp. 166/67 resp. The Revenues surcharges... 1984, pp. 148/149). The first recorded Red Revenue cover with the Chefoo Customs dater as cancellation, despite ca. 28 other Red Revenue cover usages from Chefoorecorded by Benjamin Hwa. A spectacular Red Revenue cover to Korea, from the Meyer&Co. archival find in September, 2016.

V. 95" plus "CUSTOMS T(IENT)SIN MAY 7 1895" in combination w. german offices, 20 Pf. blue vertical pair tied "TIENTSIN / Imp. German Postal Agency 11/5 95" to german navy Lt. aboard gunboat "SMS Iltis" local, then fwd. to Shanghai at full german foreign rate, arrival "CUSTOMS SHANGHAI MAY plus large double circle vermilion "CHINA SHANGHAI/R", slightly reduced at left and backed tear, opened out for display, double signed and cert. Bothe BPP (1979), full of character.

1900, ppc "The Tientsin Bund", franked with 1/2 c. brown (2) and 1 c. ocre (3), canc. by two-line private foreign-language school cancellation, transfered to German P.O. and franked with 10 pfg., canc. 5.7.00, to Germany, card with some imperfections. Among the first foreign language schools in Tsingtau, historical document.

1878/1980, collection in 6 big albums, starting with 4 large and 21 small dragons, following issues also very good, 4 Red Revenues, e .g. 350 values of definitive issues 1897/1906 up to 2 $, commemorative issues with better values incl. 5 $ Republic 1912, airmail, postage due, province issues, Mandschuko and also a small part PRC, very low start, please inspect!

1882, large dragon thick paper 3 Ca. brownish red canc. seal "Shanghai" on small cover w. on reverse "CUSTOMS SHANGHAI OCT 20 86", in combination with France 25 C. bistre on straw (slight rubbing at top) canc. "Shang-hai/Chine 20 OCT 86", to London (Nov. 29 arrival), transits red TPO "Modane à Paris" and TPO "Paris à Calais" 29 NOV 86" on reverse, somewhat unevenly opened, not affecting stamps, very fine. Chan 8.

1912, 5 dollar with Provisional Neutrality overprint, mint lightly hinged original gum (light natural gum bend), very fine and fresh. ONLY 52 EXAMPLES OF THIS MAJOR CHINA RARITY WERE SOLD. 1897, cent surcharge antiqua, 3mm distance type: 2 C., 4 C. (2), 5 C. (vertical pair) tied three strikes of blue large dullar "PEKING 22 SEP 97" in combination w. french offices 50 C. tied "SHANGHAI 1 OCT 97" to Swedish Foreign Ministry/Stockholm, backstamps blue dollar "SHANGHAI 27 SEP 97" and "STOCKHOLM 10 11 97", also blue two-line arrival of Ministry "UTRIKES DEPT. 11 NOV. 97". Cover slightly reduced at left, file bend and two small creases, none affecting stamps, on reverse gum remainders from affixing to file. The 30 C. triple weight rate. A stunning entire.

The main part consists of PR China used but mint also (s/s's mnh mostly), some 'modern' FDC's and covers, booklets (some panes on cover), and many fine and good items more.

Strength in Empire/Republic on Scott pages inc. small dragons (5), dowager 9-24 Ca. mint, red revenues 1 C. mint/used, both 2 C. mint; inc. 1942/43 provincial surcharges, provincial issues, express letter stamps, silver yuan provincials, local posts, fiscals. Taiwan 1945/99 mint/used comprehensive inc. 1955/56 s/s mint. PRC often with 1st printings inc. liberated areas/provincial issues, from 1960 basic (no s/s, cultural revolution); Japanese occupation sound collection; Tibet (independent) mostly forgeries; plus PRC 1988, 1990 year books and FDC folder „flowers of Yunnan”. 'Hidden' extras like blocks-4, plate-imprint copies, covers/ppc/FDC ec. are added between the pages, plus double stock. Accurate viewing recommended.

1878/1965, unused mounted mint/unused no gum as issued resp. used collection in two Schaubeck albums: Vol. 1 up to 1949 (inc. large dragons x4, small dragons x5) plus Shanghai Local Posts, Foreign Post Offices in China, and Taiwan; Vol. 2 1949/64 PRC mint and used, mostly 2nd printings (but radio gymnast also 1st), including peony sheet unused no gum as issued in very clean condition. 1949-1998, near to complete mint collection (except a few stamps only), many additionally used, few used only (as some souvenir sheets), and also with covers/FDC's and some really unusual stamps/items. The impressive collection contains all the good items as 1951 Tien An Men, Cultural Revolution items (as souvenir sheets, Mao's 'Thesis' and 'Directives' in unfolded strips of five etc) to 'modern' booklets or the red monkey. A very fine and comprehensive collection on pages in six big folders.

1878-1951's ca., comprehensive collection in four big albums etc, starting with 6 Large Dragons and 14 Small Dragons, further issues to 1949 including several better items like 1894 3ca IMPERF between horiz pair (Chan 9,000). Not even with the highest values but with some scarce covers and varieties. Followed by Postage Due and other service stamps, Provincial and Local issues, the 1946-1951 period as well as a special volume containing issues of the Foreign P.O.'s as German P.O.'s in China with pre-runners, the different types of ''China'' overprints from 1897 with complete sets to 5 RM (two types) mint, also used sets, HAN's and covers/stationeries, also issues of the British, the Japanese and the Russian Post in China as well as a mint Manchukuo collection. Additionally some more modern items like a UPU presentation book to the 1957 Ottawa Congress containing mint sets/issues of Taiwan 1954-57, a further Taiwan booklet 1958-60, PR China year book 1986, eight stamp booklets 1981-84 and further items like 1978 'Horses' s/s mint. A very interesting and valuable collection.

1874, EARLIEST RECORDED COVER FROM SCHWEDEN TO CHINA TO A DESTINATION OUTSIDE OF SHANGHAI: Schweden 74 öre franking made up by 17 öre lion type x2 (the upper stamp is a replacement for another 17 öre that went lost) and 20 öre Ringtyp x2 all cancelled „WENERSBORG 3.1 1874” on folded letter (some toning) to AMOY China send via Brindisi (8.1), Hong Kong (18.2) and blue Amoy (26.2.76) arrival cds. According to the Facit catalogue this is the earliest cover recorded to China (Shanghai excluded) and the only cover with Lion type issue for this destination and in general one of two covers known for the pre-UPU period. Two further covers are recorded going to Shanghai in the pre-upu period.

1866, THE ONLY RECORDED HONG KONG COVER CANCELLED BY ”SHANGHAE LOCAL POST X” CDS. 1863/64, 8 C. dull orange w. 24 C. deep green canc. by bold strikes of extremely rare „SHANGHAE LOCAL POST X FE 7 66” on small blue cover endorsed ”Marseilles„ to Edinburgh/Scotland. On reverse transits blue british p.o. „SHANGHAE C FE 8 66”, "HONG KONG C FE 12 66„ and arrival ”EDINB. M2 MR 27 66„., two slight horiz. file folds through adhesives, which however does not detract from the great rarity of this cover: Webb had not seen an example of this usage on cover, no example was in the Ishikawa collection. A MAJOR RARITY OF CHINESE POSTAL HISTORY, cert. BPA (2008) and Philatelic Foundation (2010).

1888, small dragon 5 C. (strip-3, one torn) and 3 C. (torn) canc. by three strikes of blue seal style „Tientsin”, tied by blue„CUSTOMS TIENTSIN JUN 12 92”, in combination with France 25 C. (horiz. pair) canc. „SHANG-HAI .. JUIN 92”, transit „CUSTOMS SHANGHAI JUN 10 92” on double weight cover to staff at Ministry of War, Berlin/Germany w. arrival "delivered by p.o. 62 27.7.92". Previously unknown cover recently detected in Germany.

1897, Ichang, (16-17 Nov.) registered envelope to Vienna (arrival d.s.) bearing on reverse I.C.P. 20c. from the top of the sheet, cancelled by "Ichang" dollar chop in brown, with matching "R" unframed h.s. adjacent, and on front France "Chine" 50c. cancelled by "Shang-hai/Chine" c.d.s (25.11), with "R" in frame h.s. alongside, the cover is additionally franked with an array of Local Post values (16, one has defect) also cancelled by the "Ichang" dollar chop, light uniform toning, fine picturesque franking paying the 20 cents registered letter rate for overseas UPU countries. PROBABLY THE MOST SPECTACULAR COVER IN EXISTANCE WITH THE SCARCE ICHANG DOLLAR CHOP.

1901, official card „ON POSTAL SERVICE” franked 4 C coiling dragon canc. „SHANGHAI 29 SEP 01” in combination with french officesvia Hong Kong Oct 2, Haiphong Oct 7, Hanoi Oct 8, "HOKOW 15 OCT 01„ to ”MENGTSZ 23 OCT 01„. This inner-chinese official mail to Yunnan was routed via French Indochina (a foreign route), hence foreign postage was due. To District p. o. Mengtsz, on reverse information of routing to another remote chinese place then faster accessible via foreign: "Teng Yüeh (Momein, Yünnan) Customs: Staff Address c/o Brit. P.O. Bhano, Upper Burma (via Rangoon)". A most interesting document.

1878/1966, a charming collection in a Schaubek album, predominantly used, from the early issues, the main value in the People´s Republic, to be mentioned 1952 gymnastics as first printing in blocks of four, 1961 TABLE-TENNIS MINIATURE SHEET, 1962 MEI LAN-FANG MINIATURE SHEET, 1964 ROSES MINIATURE SHEET, and other better sets.

1897, Dowager 30 cents on 24 Cn. canc. brown Pa-kua of Chefoo in combination w. french offices 25 C., 50 C. canc. „SHANGHAI 11 JUIN 97 CHINE” on registered cover (vert. bend not affecting stamps) w. bold vermillion ”R„ ms. blue ”Chefoo„ and small framed black ”R„ of french p.o., to Vienna/Austria: to editorial staff of newspaper „Welt-blatt”, on reverse brown „CUSTOMS JUN 5 97 CHEFOO”, dollar dater in brown „SHANGHAI 7 JUN 97”, Vienna registration section arrival (blue) and delivery (black) „13.7.97". Believed to be the only such single franking to Austria.

1878/1980, enormer Sammlungs- und Lagerbestand ab den großen Drachen, dabei auch Provinzen, Ausländische Postämter in China, Besetzungen, Mandschurei, Hong Kong...und vieles mehr, der unberührte Bestand stammt aus Sammlerhand und beinhaltet auch die eine oder andere Fälschung, chancenreicher Posten für Stempel und Besonderheiten.

1897, "THE RED RUBY" of Chinese Philately. 30 c. Large numeral surcharge with narrow 1 1/2 mm spacing on 24ca Dowager first printing, a magnificent mint example of one of the great rarities of both the Dowager issues as well as all of China, possessing exceptional physical features that make this an especially pretty stamp including being marvelously well centered within large margins, complemented by full even perforations, the color is bright and distinctive of the first printing Dowager issue, plus it has full original gum being lightly hinged with just a bare hint of aging at upper left of no consequence for this legendary rarity, extremely fine. The stamp offered here is the epitome of the rarities produced by the above process. It is believed that only one sheet of the 24ca First Printing Dowager was given this late large numeral surcharge with 1 1/2mm spacing. This sheet of 20 stamps was discoverd by A. Dierkin at the Chungking PO.
